Three Christians exploring Christianity from a perspective other than the fundamental view from which we have become Fundamentally Drained. We’ll hopefully shed new light on old ideas and offer thoughts on the Christian faith in today’s culture, all the while having fun and trying not to offend everyone in the process while we begin conversations we hope you will continue with others.

Perhaps James is pointing to our hope in the middle of doubt that there could be answers that we just don't know yet? So we ask for wisdom believing we could one day find it?? I have known people who enjoy questions about faith, but their goal just seems to be to ask questions...with no intention of ever reaching truth. I've even heard people say they don't even like the concept of truth because everything is relative, nothing objective in their view. It just seems like we can easily get stuck in an ocean of doubt and refuse to step onto the solid ground of truth when it comes along...because that would require a step into faith, I think, which is risky. Both doubt and faith can be risky places to live.

So glad to hear such love offered to those of us who doubt. It takes extra courage for church leaders to admit to not having all the answers. Humility in action. On the question of having faith when we pray...that is a concept from the New Testament, not just coming from Conservative Western Churches. I think of James, the brother of Jesus himself, who taught this about asking for wisdom: "If any of you is lacking in wisdom, ask God, who gives to all generously and ungrudgingly, and it will be given you. 6 But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind; 7, 8 for the doubter, being double-minded and unstable in every way, must not expect to receive anything from the Lord."
